Note: Now, I'm gonna briefly talk about Dolby Digital. I only mentioned this one and not its competitor, DTS, because you can actually use this one.
It's a proprietary format developed by Dolby, although it does have some software support. For instance, FFmpeg can both encode and decode AC-3 audio.
